Eph 5:15-16 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, (16) Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

What is Redeeming the Time? The context is the marketplace. Make the most of your time (opportunities). Time is our most precious commodity. So run the race.

Heb 12:1-2 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, (2) fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith….

Why do we need to redeem the time? The first is implied: Time is short. The second is stated: The day is evil Immorality Godlessness Materialism Fast times Two reasons are given in Eph 5:15-16

Psa 23:1-2 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. (2) He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. Psa 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. Psa 119:15 I will meditate on Your precepts And regard Your ways. Psa 145:5 On the glorious splendor of Your majesty And on Your wonderful works, I will meditate.

Psa 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. Psa 119:15 I will meditate on Your precepts And regard Your ways. Psa 145:5 On the glorious splendor of Your majesty And on Your wonderful works, I will meditate.

Take Time To Be Holy Take time to be holy. The world rushes on. Spend much time in secret With Jesus alone. Like Him thou shalt be. Thy friends in thy conduct His likeness shall see. W. D. Longstaff

How do we redeem the time?

By taking advantage of the positive opportunities that this creates

How do we redeem the time? Use opportunities to display godliness Matt 5:16 Use opportunities to display the peace that passes understanding– I Pet 3:15 To do so, we need to know what is important. Be busy. Eccl 9:10 Use opportunities for teaching 2 Tim 4:2

Eccl 9:10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might; for there is no activity or planning or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol where you are going.

How do we redeem the time? Use opportunities to display godliness Matt 5:16 Use opportunities to display the peace that passes understanding– I Pet 3:15 To do so, we need to know what is important. Be busy. Eccl 9:10 Beware of sloth Prov 24:30-34 Use opportunities for teaching 2 Tim 4:2

Prov 24:30-34 I passed by the field of the sluggard And by the vineyard of the man lacking sense, (31) And behold, it was completely overgrown with thistles; Its surface was covered with nettles, And its stone wall was broken down. (32) When I saw, I reflected upon it; I looked, and received instruction. (33) "A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to rest," (34) Then your poverty will come as a robber And your want like an armed man.

What is the proper way to redeem the time? Focus on elephants not ants. Focus on your responsibility. Focus on what is important.

Invest Your Time Wisely Invest in your spouse. Spend time with him/her. Brag about him/her. Second hand compliments. Say “I love you” to him/her. Speak highly of marriage. Invest in your children. Spend time with them. Raise them yourself. Don’t substitute money for yourself. Invest in eternity.
