A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step. –Lao Tzu I cannot say whether things will get better if we change; what I can say is they must change if they are to get better. -Georg C. Lichtenberg
RE FORM As a unified front, educators need to show they are willing to fight for the changes they wish to see in the school system. Though not all educators may agree with one another’s possible solutions, it is important to recognize when there is validity to any argument. Regardless of how long it may take to settle upon solidified ideas, educators must persist. Remember, change only needs one individual as its catalyst.
Those who expect moments of change to be comfortable and free of conflict have not learned their history. -Joan Wallach Scott A scholar who loves comfort is not fit to be called a scholar. -Confucius, Analects
RE ACT It is not enough to simply make a change, although that is certainly a huge first step. Educators need to adapt to the new environment. There are many aspects that require adaptation after a change, from attitude, to discipline, and anything in between. Only by accepting the change, observing its effects, and leaving room for modifications will reform yield positive results.
It is better to be high- spirited even though one makes more mistakes, than to be narrow-minded and all too prudent. -Vincent Van Gogh Enthusiasm is excitement with inspiration, motivation, and a pinch of creativity. –Bo Bennett
RE VIVE Educators thrive off of student enthusiasm. Why not strive, then, to imbue our students with excitement? To do so is easier said than done. Think of everything in your classroom that hinders even some of the most effective teachers’ abilities to motivate students. By configuring a change, created by revolutionary, forward- thinking teachers, and adapting to that change, the next generation of students and teachers alike may find motivation and enthusiasm within easy reach.
Project RE Now the tough part. How does something like this even get started? By exposing frustrated educators to raw suggestions. The opportunities and ideas are out there, but most of us never come across them. The initial goal of RE will be to bring these ideas to light through videos and websites created by educators across the board. RE members may then discuss these possible solutions to come up with actual solutions. To get started as a member of RE, simply follow the Wikispace dedicated to the project: http://revolutionary-educators.wikispaces.com/
