Simplified Coed Slow Pitch Softball Rules A team consists of 5 males and 5 females (minimum roster size) 5 male players and 5 female players must play defense at all times There must be 2 of each sex in the infield and outfield positions Pitching distance is 40 feet from home plate Players must use official softball bats only Male and female players must alternate in batting order When a male batter is walked, the following female batter has an option of batting or taking a walk Batter may not bunt, chop or half swing. The result is the ball is dead and the batter is out, base runners may not advance Base runners are not allowed to lead off - base runners must keep foot in contact with the base until the ball crosses home plate Games are 50 minutes finish the batter. The final score will be the score at the end of the last complete inning.
Slow Pitch Softball Strike Criteria WHAT IS A SLOW PITCH SOFTBALL STRIKE: Must have a legal arc: Minimum 6-feet from the ground Maximum 12-feet from the ground Must be delivered underhand at a moderate speed Is judged when it crosses the plate Must be a pitched ball that passes through the strike zone which is that space over any part of home plate between the batter’s back shoulder and their front knee when the batter assumes their natural batting stance
Slow Pitch Softball Strike Zone Remember that the position of a batter in the batter’s box makes no difference. The plate and batter’s natural stance at the plate are the controlling factors. STRIKE A pitched ball that touches home plate and is not swung at is always a ball. BACK SHOULDER KNEES Some part of a legally pitched ball must pass through this zone to be called a strike.
