DAVID: A MAN AFTER GOD’S OWN HEART!

“He (God) raised up for them David as King, to whom also He gave testimony and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.’” (Acts 13:22) David: A Man After God’s Own Heart!

Have you ever wondered why the Scriptures accredits David alone as being a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22)? There are many other great men and women of God listed in the Bible. David: A Man After God’s Own Heart!

IT IS THE POWER OF THE PARADOX! I believe the answer lies in a paradox (two seemingly contradictory things that in fact are complimentary). David was BOTH a warrior AND a worshipper. Let us look at three paradoxical characteristics that I believe God is looking for in His people. David: A Man After God’s Own Heart!

1. Be a Worshipper and a Warrior. 2. Be Weak and be Strong. 3. Be a Student and a Teacher. David: A Man After God’s Own Heart!

1. Be a Worshipper and a Warrior. David washed the blood off his hands from his action-packed campaigns and then spread out holy hands before God in humble worship. David was a Warrior by day and a Worshipper by night! David: A Man After God’s Own Heart!

Often people focus on one area or the other, rarely both. Firstly there are people who are real modern-day warriors. They are in action the whole time, with goals to achieve and territory to conquer. They are driven by the vision. Secondly, there are people who are dedicated worshippers. These love to spend time seeking God’s face in prayer, worship and intercession. David: A Man After God’s Own Heart!

2. Be Weak and be Strong. In Joshua chapter 1 the Lord tells Joshua numerous times to be strong and very courageous. Yet in 2 Corinthians 12:9 God reveals to the Apostle Paul that he should rejoice in his weaknesses. So what should we be, weak or strong? The key is being weak before God BUT being strong in facing the devil! David: A Man After God’s Own Heart!

We can be strong in facing the issues and challenges that this world throws at us when our reliance is not on ourselves but on God! David learnt this lesson as a young shepherd boy facing the lion and the bear (1 Samuel 17:37) in the Lord’s strength and then facing Goliath. David: A Man After God’s Own Heart!

3. Be a Student and a Teacher. There is a simple truth: ‘If you stop growing you simply stop!’ “The miracle through you can never be bigger than the miracle in you!” We need to always be both Students and Teachers. David: A Man After God’s Own Heart!

Some people think they know everything! Others think they know nothing! Someone said if you know a little more than someone else then you can be a teacher. If you are just receiving you become spiritually overweight. If you are just giving you become underweight. David: A Man After God’s Own Heart!

David was a man after God’s own heart because he continued to learn as a child and as an adult (Nathan/David/Bathsheba). At the same time he was able to lead the way and become Israel’s greatest King. 1. Be a Worshipper and a Warrior! 2. Be Weak and be Strong! 3. Be a Student and a Teacher!
