At International Security Summit held in Germany, David Cameron, Prime Minister of England, declared that UK’s multiculturalism failed after all. Nicolas Sarkozy, President of France, said while focusing too much on immigrants’s identity, French forgot to brace France’s identity.
Multiculturalism in Korea Korea is rapidly becoming a multicultural s ociety with more and more foreigners who come to Korea to acquire Korea’s nationali ty every year. International marriages have increased to the point of approximately 12 % of the total marriages in Korea. Every y ear, over 3 million women from Asian coun tries such as China, Philippines, and Vietn am marry Korean men.
FOR / AGAINST Foreigners can take charge of h ard physical labor jobs (so-calle d 3D jobs). Having different cultures and su bcultures can be one of the mo st important competitiveness a country can have. Multiculturalism is undeniable a nd being against it can have ne gative influences on Korea’s nat ional brand. It can cause a social confusion, dist rust among people. Many nations(like France) who onc e encouraged multinationalism are turning their back against it as they have suffered from it. Koreans are not ready to accept m ulticultural families yet.
Debate Questions Are most Koreans fond of multiculturalism? Is the notion 'multicultralism' truly a current trend? Why some nations are turning their way to nationalism? If foreigners with their own culture bring ‘diversity’ in Korean culture, would it be bad or good? What do you think about France banning burka(Islam traditional clothes for women)? Will making foreigners to acquire Korean nationality more strictly solve current problems of multiculturalism?
Overall, about Korea becoming a multicultural society…
