5 Language points  bang on (the door)  表示故意猛敲或撞击常产生巨响,暗示气愤 或着急  knock at /on (the door)  表示敲击某物而发出清脆的响声,主要暗示 某人在此,因此声音并不很大。

6 例如:  1 He was banging on the door with his fists.  2 Someone’s knocking at the door.

7 Answer the following questions according to the text  1 How is everybody on Monday morning?  2 Why was father in a hurry to bang on the bathroom door?  3 What did mother come upstairs to do ?  4 Did David feel like any breakfast? Why?  5 What was mother about to do when the doorbell rang?  6 what did the postman say as soon as he saw mother?

8 1How is everybody on Monday morning? EEverybody is sleepy. EEverybody seems tired after having two days’ rest. EEverybody is bad -tempered EEverybody is in a hurry.

9 have two days’ rest 名词所有格在词尾加 ’s 构成 in a week’s time in a day’s time 如果原词已有复数词尾 “S” 则只加 一个 “ ’ ” In two days’ time have (another) five minutes’ sleep

10 In a hurry 匆忙地 hurry up 赶快  Everybody is in a hurry.  He is in a hurry to leave.  Hurry up,or we will be late for class.

11 than usual 比往常  Last Monday was even worse than usual.  He came earlier than usual this morning.

12 2 Why was father in a hurry to bang on the bathroom door?  Because he had a train to catch.

13 3 What did mother come upstairs to do ? AAs she got no reply, she came upstairs to see what was going on.

14 get no reply 没有得到答复  I asked the questions several times, but I got no reply.

15 see what is going on 看个究竟  I opened the door to see what was going on ..

16 4 Did David feel like any breakfast? Why?  No,he didn’t.  Because he would have another five minutes’ sleep.

17 feel like (doing) sth 表示 “ 想要,想干 ” 后跟名词或动名词  Do you feel like a cup of tea?  I don’t feel like dancing now.

18 5 What was mother about to do when the doorbell rang?  Mother was about to go into his room and drag him out of bed when the doorbell rang.

19 be about to do sth 正要干,即将干 He was about to leave when he heard a sound behind him.

20 把某人拖下床 drag sb out of bed 把某人拖下床  Mother was about to drag him out of bed when the doorbell rang.

21 6 what did the postman say as soon as he saw mother? He said“ Good morning,Mrs Craft,it’s a lovely day,isn’t it?” Talking about the weather is a way to break the ice and begin conversation. It’s a safe topic.
