CSFM List Received full list of CSFM’s and reviewing with STMA to determine which ones have a unique story to share with media.
Social Media Additional Activities Provided consistent updates from @FieldExperts on Twitter (and linked to Facebook) throughout month. Uploaded publicity links to extend the lifecycle. Followed prominent Twitter accounts and interacted with other sports turf managers to increase followers. Grew @FieldExperts from less than 300 followers to more than 1,500 followers and counting.
Member Interviews Additional Activities Reached out to STMA members regarding upcoming ghostwrites. In the NFL, contacted Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers. In college athletics, contacted University of Florida and Vassar College. Scheduling interview with Carolina Panthers field manager as well as additional STMA members who work in the NFL with teams in the playoffs. Scheduling phone call, members of the Arizona Cardinals in preparation for the Super Bowl and Pro Bowl.
2015 STMA Conference Additional Activities Glenn Gray will be on-site and has a social media presentation on Wednesday, Jan. 14. Assisting STMA with social media posts using #STMA2015. Pre-Conference news release – Distributed early October. Couple placements to date, will continue to follow up. Secured media attendees including: Susan Clotfelter (Denver Post), Joelle Harms (Athletic Turf), Pat Roberts (Athletic Turf), Jason Gewirtz (SportsTravel Magazine), Scott Bultman (Stadium Journey) and Larry Aylward (Superintendent Magazine / SportsField Management Magazine). Will continue reaching out to media to arrange media passes for the exhibition and mobile conference. Drafted ghostwritten article for SportsTurf Magazine.
Ghostwritten Articles Additional Activities Submitted an article featuring STMA ’Field of the Year’ Award recipients Ryan Bjorn, Jimmy Simpson, Noel Brusius and Mike Trigg for SportsTurf Magazine (January 2015 issue). Will be distributed at STMA conference in January. Submitted an article on STMA member Jason Smith regarding his work with ”The Swamp” for Turf Life (January 2015 issue). Working with STMA Education Manager Kristen Althouse on a monthly column for ExpertBeacon.com. Submitted an article on STMA member Kevin Mercer regarding campus environmental practices for Interscholastic Athletic Administration (January 2015 issue). 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup Additional Activities Continuing to monitor media updates regarding debate for FIFA choosing artificial turf versus natural grass for the summer 2015 event. Lawsuit is pending and will watch closely to see how STMA might be positioned in the topic. MLS Buffalo arranged interviews with STMA member Dan Shemesh of the New York Red Bulls. Contacting MLS groundskeepers in preparation for season openers.
MLB Additional Activities Updated STMA member contact lists. Following up on off-season media opportunities with several teams such as the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals. Planning to pitch MLB groundskeepers prior to Opening Day, including Chicago Cubs regarding Wrigley Field renovation. Artificial Turf Health Concerns Continued to monitor media airwaves following NBC Nightly News report. Forwarded relevant news items to STMA for review.
