Andy Walton’s Weekly World Watch “If the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes the life of one of them, that man will be taken away because of his sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for his blood.” Ezekiel 33:6 September 3 - 9 2006

What is this world watch all about? I decided each week to look at key events that had happened in that week and look at them with the Bible in hand. I hope to build up a picture of Gods hand working in the affairs of this world bringing about that day when all nations will be gathered to Jerusalem to battle which will be brought to end when the Lord Jesus Christ physically returns from heaven to set up Gods kingdom. The key areas which will crop up time and again will be 1.Israel – Middle East the growing conflict 2.Europe – the developing union / political and religious 3.Russia – continued turning back to anti west ways 4.The development of King of South – US & UK 5.Declining moral standards and increasing violence. Please email me with any thoughts, questions or anything I may have missed! On last page there is a red button – if you click it an email will open up pre addressed to me so you can send an email comments etc

Weekly Developments These are just a few of the events that have caught my eye in the previous week. It is in no way meant to be exhaustive – just a look at those events I saw as significant from a Bible viewpoint. Headlines These are always headlines printed in the newspaper – the date is always given and which paper. Normally the Daily Telegraph. (DT) Event This is usually the newspapers take on the events that have happened. It will always be a direct quote from the newspaper. Comment This is my take on why it is interesting from a Bible point of view. The idea of this weekly world watch is to give a quick Biblical perspective without going into detail. If more detail is needed please email me. Bible Quote This is normally one verse which backs up why the event that has occurred is interesting from a Biblical perspective. Please read in its context.

Weekly Developments Iran snubs Annan Anti-Semtism increases in UK Naval Babel around Lebanon Europe’s role in the Middle East Earthquake in Israel Christianity a crime in UK September 3 - 9 2006 TO PRINT ANY ONE OF THE FOLLOWING SLIDES JUST CLICK ON THE PICTURE ON EACH SLIDE

Iran snubs Annan Headline Iran snubs Annan and rejects nuclear plea Headline Daily Telegraph September 4 Event Iran brushed aside Kofi Annan’s efforts to mediate in the crisis over its nuclear ambitions yesterday even as Western powers struggled to maintain momentum for sanctions against the Islamic state. The United Nations secretary-general left Teheran empty-handed after Iran’s hardline president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, rejected his call to heed Security Council demands for Iran to suspend uranium enrichment. In a further provocative move, timed to embarrass Mr Annan, Iranian officials said they would host a conference soon questioning the extent of the Holocaust. Comment When I began the WWW in October 2003 Iran was rarely in the news. Now it is almost every week. It was back in July 2004 that the WWW identified the fact the Medes (Iranians) would be stirred up at the same time of destruction coming to Babylon (modern Iraq). The chapter in Isaiah 13 speaks clearly of these things. The stirring up of the Medes continues unabated. Jeremiah 51:11 also talks of the “spirit of the kings of the Medes” being “raised up”. It is interesting the word “kings” is plural. In modern Iran there are several “kings” or “rulers”. There is a president, (Mr Ahmadinejad) and also the religious leaders who control the country. They all hate Israel and appear determined to continue to provoke until there is conflict. Bible Quote Isaiah 13 17 Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, which shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it. 19 ¶ And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.

Anti-Semitism increases in UK Headline Anti-Semitic Hate Wave Rolls Across Britain and Australia - Headline A7news September 6 Event The month of July was one of the worst, in terms of anti-Semitism, in both England and Australia. In Canada, as well, Jewish leaders are concerned. in Australia reports that anti-Semitism is on the rise across university campuses in the country. Grahame Leonard, the president of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, says July had the most anti-Semitic incidents - no fewer than 141 - since records began in 1945. Never before had there been more than some 90. The July attacks included phone calls, hate e-mails and graffiti, as well as violent incidents - with the big jump being on campuses in Victoria. Comment Britain also reported this week a big rise in anti-Semitic incidents. Australia, Canada and the UK are not noted for this type of behaviour towards the Jews. But as God says through Jeremiah in the verse below, even Israel’s “lovers” have forgotten thee. They do not seek thee. Why? Because God himself is driving them away because of Israel’s wickedness and sin. Israel has always put its trust in other nations (lovers) and NOT in the Lord God himself. God is bringing about a time when the nations that Israel relies on will fail. Israel will be left with no choice but to rely on God. Bible Quote Jeremiah 13 11 For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished. 12For thus saith the LORD, Thy bruise is incurable, and thy wound is grievous.13 There is none to plead thy cause, that thou mayest be bound up: thou hast no healing medicines.14 All thy lovers have forgotten thee; they seek thee not.

Naval Babel around Lebanon Headline “Lebanese Security” Is the Pretext for the Naval Babel around Lebanon’s Shores DEBKAfile September 6 Event The extraordinary buildup of European naval and military strength in and around Lebanon’s shores is way out of proportion for the task the European contingents of expanded UNIFIL have undertaken: to create a buffer between Israel and Hizbollah. Close investigation by DEBKAfile’s military and intelligence sources discloses that “Lebanese security” and peacemaking is not the object of the exercise. It is linked to the general anticipation of a military clash between the United States and Israel, on one side, and Iran and possibly Syria on the other, some time from now until November This expectation has brought together the greatest sea and air armada Europe has ever assembled at any point on earth since World War II: two carriers with 75 fighter- bombers, spy planes and helicopters on their decks; 15 warships of various types – 7 French, 5 Italian, 2-3 Green, 3-5 German, and five American; thousands of Marines – French, Italian and German, as well as 1,800 US Marines. Comment Europe is modern Babel. A gathering of nations of different languages under a false religion. Europe says it is Babel itself. Europe gathers a huge military force right next to Israel in anticipation of conflict in the area. The gathering of the nations to Israel is surely underway. How long before Babel/Babylon makes war on Israel? Bible Quote Genesis 11 9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

Europe’s role in the Middle East Headline Europe now has a chance to play more than a marginal role in the Middle East- The Economist August 31st Event “It’s Europe's moment in the Arab-Israeli arena,” says Martin Indyk, a former American ambassador to Israel and head of the Saban Centre, a Washington DC think-tank. If true, that may mean a big change in one of the world's most dangerous spots. Europeans have been marginal in the Middle East for years. Too pro-Palestinian to be trusted by Israel, they have not had much power or influence over the Arabs either. However, Europeans are sending 7,000 soldiers to the United Nations' peacekeeping force in Lebanon. This, as it happens, is the number of British soldiers in Iraq—not a negligible force. Two or ten years ago, it would have been hard to imagine Europeans taking such a role. Something has clearly changed. Two things, in fact. America's scope for action in the region is limited, partly by choice and partly by the fall- out from the occupation of Iraq. That puts Europe into the unfamiliar position of being the one who hasn't messed up recent Comment We quoted Martin Indyk (former US ambassador to Israel) last week when he spoke of the growing links with Sunni Arab leaders and Israel. This week he comments on Europe’s new involvement in the Middle East and the weakening of America’s position. The Lebanon war has brought this about. The political plates in the region have shifted dramatically in the last few weeks. The European beast is emerging from slumber and will eventually make war against Christ and the saints. As the next slide shows the literal tectonic plates of the region are moving as well! Bible Quote Revelation 17 8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: beast = Europe

Earthquake in Israel Headline 4.4 earthquake hits central Israel; no injuries Headline Jerusalem Post September 9 Event A moderate earthquake was felt across central Israel Saturday morning. The tremor measured 4.4 on the Richter scale, the Geophysical Institute of Israel reported. Its epicentre was in the Jordan Valley. There were no reports of damage or injuries. Comment And so at this incredibly sensitive time – with nations being gathered together to Israel to battle - the literal land in the centre of Israel shakes! We must see God’s hand here, warning of the impending destruction that is coming. The physical earth groans. The labour pains are getting close together. Isaiah 13 was quoted on a previous slide in reference to the Medes being stirred up. Verse 13 of the same chapter talks of the heavens being shaken and the earth being removed out of her place. God’s wrath on the nations is coming. There were no reports of damage or injury with this earthquake but we know the time is coming when every wall will fall to the ground (Ezekiel 38:20) and men will hide in the caves (Isaiah 2:19) to try to escape and the Mount of Olives will split in two. However this terrible time of trouble will bring our redemption, as Jesus himself returns and gathers those together to be with him who have followed in faith and truth. Let us shun evil and wickedness and put our complete trust in the Lord our God. Bible Quote Isaiah 13 11 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.13 Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger. Jerusalem area: Quake hit at around 8am

Christianity a crime in UK Headline How Britain is turning Christianity into a crime Headline Daily Mail September 7 Event How long will it be before Christianity becomes illegal in Britain? This is no longer the utterly absurd and offensive question that on first blush it would appear to be. An evangelical Christian campaigner, Stephen Green, was arrested and charged last weekend with using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour. So what was this behaviour? Merely trying peacefully to hand out leaflets at a gay rally in Cardiff. So what was printed on those leaflets that was so threatening, abusive or insulting that it attracted the full force of the law? Why, none other than the majestic words of the 1611 King James Bible. The problem was that they were those bits of the Bible which forbid homosexuality. The leaflets also urged homosexuals to ‘turn from your sins and you will be saved’. But to the secular priests of the human rights culture, the only sin is to say that homosexuality is a sin. The Bible is the moral code that underpins our civilisation. Yet the logic of the police action against Mr Green surely leads ultimately to the inescapable conclusion that the Bible itself is ‘hate speech’ and must be banned. Comment Though we might not agree with “provocative preaching” we can surely see how in the UK the time is fast approaching when we may end up in court for preaching about the things of the TRUTH. What we see above is the “fruit” of “humanism”. It is this very froglike spirit of Revelation 16 that is going to bring judgment on the world. Bible Quote 2 Tim 3 1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves,3 Without natural affection 5..from such turn away.
