5 Elementary Programs Magnet Acceleration Location: Kolb Elementary Grades 1-5 This program is designed to meet the needs of those students who need academic acceleration.  Grade Level Above Math and English Language Arts  Grade Level Enrichment in Science and Social Studies

6 Elementary Programs Cluster Enrichment This program is designed to meet the needs of those students who perform above their grade level peers in one or more academic areas.  Enrichment in Math, English Language Arts, Science and Social Studies  Pace of content may be covered at a quicker rate but not at a grade level above. The Enrichment Program is available in five locations across the district.

8 Overview of the Identification Process  Confirm that you are interested at  IQ  The difference between the chronological age and the mental/cognitive age  Achievement Testing  Terra Nova (K & 1)  District Testing  Parent Surveys  Teacher Surveys

9 What is an IQ test?  Our test administrators will use a verbal and a non- verbal (problem solving) subtest. - = IQ 100 means that the brain age and the actual age are the same. That is, a 5 year old has a mental age of 5.

11 Achievement Testing Kindergarten and First Grade Students Terra Nova Kolb Elementary March 7 th or March 14th Grade 1 through Grade 4 Students District Benchmark and State Testing will be gathered on their behalf.

12 Parent Behaviors and Characteristics Survey  You will be asked to rate your child on a scale of 1 to 9.  Intellectual  Academic  Creative  Leadership  Artistic  Then share two instances that you and another have witnessed academic talent.

13 Teacher Behaviors and Characteristics Survey  The Teacher will be asked to rate your child on a scale of 1 to 9.  Intellectual  Academic  Creative  Leadership  Artistic  Then rate their academic level in the classroom.  They are also asked to share any information that they believe will help the GT office make an appropriate academic recommendation.

14 Evaluation Profile  Aptitude Testing—IQ  Achievement Testing  Teacher Observations and Ratings  Gifted and Talented Evaluation Scales Parent  Gifted and Talented Evaluation Scales Teacher  The goal of the profile is to gain as much information about your child as we can to make the best academic recommendation.

15 Evaluation Timeline Aptitude Testing IQ Pre-School and Kindergarten Saturdays in February and March Grades 1-4 at school early March Achievement Testing Terra Nova (K and 1 only) March 7 th or 14 th Parent and Teacher Surveys Due March 16 th Profiles created late March Decision letters mailed after Spring Break
