2Walk to Math Program Model The concept behind Walk to Math is students receiving math instruction at their individual level. We all know that students learn in different ways and at their own individual pace. Mathematics is unique in that math lessons often build on previous math skills and concepts. If students have not mastered the previous skills and concepts, they are often confused and have difficulty mastering the new.Our goal for this program is to master all of their grade level math skills before they enter the next grade level.
3Grade Level Math Standards Each month, or unit, teachers will focus on teaching several math standards. After a teacher finishes the unit, the students will be given assessments to check student understanding. In addition to unit tests, teachers administer standard based “check-points" (usually 3 problems) to ensure student mastery on previously taught standards. These “check-points” help teachers ensure that students have mastered all previouslytaught standards.

8Habits of a Mathematically Expert Student The Common Core proposes a set of Mathematical Practices that all teachers should develop in their students:Make sense of problems and persevere in solving themReason abstractly and quantitativelyConstruct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of othersModel with mathematicsUse appropriate tools strategicallyAttend to precisionLook for and make use of structureLook for and express regularity in repeated reasoning
9A Balanced Math Program A well-balancedmathematics program includes:• Conceptual understanding• Procedural proficiency• Mathematical processes
