Axway Trade Facilitation : Market Trends in Asia, seen from a solution provider
© Axway, 2004 / Axway and eTrade Paperless Trading – Asia Pacific (source APEC 2004) Overview by Country
© Axway, 2004 / Axway and eTrade Asian market Key Trends enterprises embracing paperless trading for competitiveness, accuracy, reliability and benefits of enhancing velocity of information at a national level economies are planning/implementing trade facilitation/single window infrastructure which brings benefits to the business and to the government. This is encouraged and driven by political, economic and trade agreements with cross border cooperation enhancing such effort better ability to secure borders and manage and control movement of goods particularly in the context of national security Technology & standards maturing has helped support implementation of such infrastructure private trading hubs or single windows are emerging and the effort is moving towards integration of processes that help enterprises manage the entire business process in an extended enterprise context
© Axway, 2004 / Axway and eTrade Asian market Key Issues lack of lead agency or powerful owner political will ( from govt & business) & funding public-private partnerships are slow in formation : obstacles from parties with vested interests clear business models project failures getting wide publicity discourage fresh implementations and arrest development elongated sales cycles of such project are in conflict with implementor/technology provider's expectations which has a negative impact on such projects
© Axway, 2004 / Axway and eTrade Asian market Role of International Organisations (WTO, UN, WCO, WBO, …) advocating approaches to enhance paperless trading but also closely monitoring experiences to overcome varied challenges and translate plan to action encouraging govts to implement such projects with programs that involve leadership at economies with suitable rewards for accomplishement handholding some economies else risks of economic disparities widening adopting implementors fearlessly in a suitable manner and must advocate solutions with program proposals
