Start with class room and cover terminology with PowerPoint provided (S 190) Review the progressive hose lay in Bothell Fires Hose Manual. Inventory our progressive hose packs and confirm we have 100 ft - 1”hose, 100 ft - 1.5” hose, a gated wye, 1.5” to 1” reducer and a 1” nozzle. Hose rolled with male and female on same side double donut style. This allows you to have male and female in hand when you roll it out. Practice a progressive hose lay deployment with a minimum of three packs.
Start your attack with a simple hose lay (pre-connect or trash line). Make sure you have an anchor point. Use your progressive packs to extend off the simple hose lay. Use ball valve on nozzle to allow connection of wye. Connect and charge 1” line first. This is your attack line. Systematically move up the flank of the fire with 1” attack line extinguishing as you move forward. Remember to always lead with water as to provide safety for FF’s and prevent hose burns. Follow the 1” attack line with the dry 1.5” trunk line. The 1.5” trunk/supply line should remain in the green on perimeter of fire. Remember to communicate escape routes and safety zones Discuss how you would handle spot fires and slop overs. Lookout! Who is it and where is he/she located? (Usually a B.C.)
