2 Hey guys!!! My name is Marvelous Macy!!! I’m the greatest super hero alive!!! Well, I’m not really a super hero but I love to pretend!!! My best friends like to play with me too!!! We are called the Greatest Girls Super Hero Club! We have fifteen members! There’s Acrobat Annie, Clumsy Carrie and Crazy Cassie, just to name a few! I just made twenty super power necklaces to give to all of my super hero friends!! Oh no!!! Crew the Crook, my stinky brother just snuck into my room and stole eight of my nearest and dearest super hero necklaces!!! How many necklaces do I have left?

13 Web Quests are learning structures that use links to scaffold student learning (March). These Web Quests are made to motivate student learning and to allow student collaboration. Any time we as teachers can allow students to work collaboratively, we will see increased student performance. Blakey and Spence state that research shows that when students are aware of their own thinking patterns-after making metacognition overt-independent use of these strategies eventually develops in learners. By allowing students to build their own knowledge through technology scaffolding we build better learners. Web Quests are a great way to help build this higher-level knowledge. Building on the idea that Web Quests can develop critical thinking and scaffolded learning there are many ways that they can be used in the classroom. The Web Quest that I have created for my project could be used in my classroom. The current Web Quest was made to summatively assess/review 2 nd grade word problems. When I made it I kept in mind a new method that was recently introduced to me. This method is called the SQRQCQ method. To scaffold this method I broke it apart into steps, lower level to higher level thinking. The students will then use the knowledge that they have acquired to finish a summative assessment. I would use this as an end of the unit lesson. It could also be used as an opening lesson to introduce students to the method and pre-assess them. This is just one of the many ways that Web Quests could be used (student centered) in the classroom. My use of the Web Quest meets KYTS 6 in several ways. First, it meets standard 6.2. I as the teacher am using technology to facilitate student learning. Students are given options for extensions and a chance to scaffold their learning. Through the use of my Web Quest I am also meeting standard 6.3, which states that I as the teacher am using available technology for my instruction. Web Quests may take a while to create but are easy for students to navigate. Every classroom usually has at least one computer so a Web Quest can be easily implemented. I am also meeting standard 6.4 because I am using technology to assess my students. These assessments may be formative but scaffold to an ending summative assessment. These are just a few of the KYTS 6 standards that I am meeting by the use of a Web Quest. By implementing a Web Quest I am also meeting NETS*T standards. First I am meeting standard 2 which states that as the teacher I develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress. By allowing small formative assessments in my Web Quest students are allowed to have quick feedback of their progress. I am also meeting standard 3, which states that as the teacher I demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations. By using this Web Quest I am taking a previous method that students have been practicing and transferring it to new technologies. One last standard that I am meeting is standard 4, which states that by the use of a Web Quest I am promoting and modeling digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information. Because students are working collaboratively they must also practice responsible social interactions with their classmates and the technology. These are just a few ways that my use of a Web Quest meets NETS*T standards. There is no question as to if Web Quests can be beneficial to my students and classroom. Any form of technology will benefit my students by differentiating their instruction and their days. By being able to work collaboratively students will learn from one another. In accordance student centered use of technology will increase student motivation. All of these attributes will lead to higher student success rates. Overall, the use of Web Quests will be beneficial to all of my students and should be implemented in all classrooms.
