“LOOKING UNTO JESUS” – Our Example In His Respect and Attitude Towards The Scriptures! - Hebrews 12:2 5/4/20152

3 Many claim to follow Jesus – and encourage others to do the same, but the example of Christ in following the scriptures is an example that is often overlooked. In fact – Many today sneer at the very idea of the need to establish scriptural authority for what we do. You are like the Pharisees You are being legalistic You are being too narrow minded!

5/4/20154 In this lesson we want to examine the attitude Jesus had toward the scriptures. Isn’t it just as important to follow Jesus’ example in respecting the scriptures as it is to follow Him in every other example He has left for us?. During the public ministry of Christ we find Jesus often showing His respect for the scriptures by saying - “have you not read...”

5/4/20155 Matt 12:3; 12:5; 19:4; 22:31; Mk 12:10; 12:26; Lk 6:3. This phrase is found seven different times in the four gospel accounts - Matt 12:3; 12:5; 19:4; 22:31; Mk 12:10; 12:26; Lk 6:3. Luke 10:26 In one other instance Christ says - “what is written...” - Luke 10:26 Matt 21:42; 22:29; 26:54, 56 ; Mk 12:24; 14:49; Lk 24:27, 32, 45; John 5:39 In ten other cases in the gospels Christ refers the audience to the “scriptures” - Matt 21:42; 22:29; 26:54, 56 ; Mk 12:24; 14:49; Lk 24:27, 32, 45; John 5:39.

5/4/20156 This all goes to show how Jesus viewed the Scriptures while here on earth.
