Welcome to Ms. Rice’s 1 st Grade Class Ms. Laurie Rice Room 17 August 2008
It’s that time again! I hope everyone had a fun, relaxing summer. Students return to school on Monday, August 4, 2008
This is my first year teaching at Samantha Elementary School. Previously, I taught in the Tuscaloosa City School system for nine years.
Be on time! Students are to be in the classroom by 8:00 a.m. daily. Breakfast is served from 7:30--7:45 a.m. in the lunchroom. School is dismissed at 2:45 p.m. each day.
How does your child get to and leave school? Which bus? Car rider? Walk?

Home / School Folder Your child will bring the folder home daily for you to see and sign. Look for the face on the monthly behavior chart indicating what kind of day the student had. Write comments or notes if you like.
COMMUNICATION Contact me by at Call school--leave a message, I will return the call as soon as possible. Write a note in the Home/School folder
NEWSLETTERSNEWSLETTERS Periodically, I will send home printed Newsletters with important information and reminders about our class. Also, you may access them on my webpage.
BehaviorBehavior Students will receive a Happy, Straight, or Sad Face to depict their behavior each day. The ‘Happy Board’ near the teachers’ desk will show what kind of day the students are having. Report cards will reflect the child’s behavior at school.
Classroom Rules Listen to the teacher and follow direction the first time they are given. Treat people and property with kindness and respect. Follow the Code of Conduct.
If you break a rule….. 1.Warning 2.Time Out 3.Name moved 4.Note / Phone call to parents 5.Referred to Counselor, Principal 6.Not allowed Party or Field Trip
Homework Students will be expected to do homework. Handwriting practice will be the first assignment, beginning Monday 8/4/08.
TEXTBOOKS Students have the following paper back textbooks: –SPELLING –LANGUAGE –MATH
