Therapeutic Duplicate is defined as 2 drugs that are classified in the same Therapeutic Class. Examples: Nifedipine and Amlodipine Generic Duplicates are defined as 2 drugs that are the same ingredient. Examples: Acetaminophen tablets and Acetaminophen suppositories ***Note*** Generic Duplicates are a sub category of Therapeutic Duplicates, and therefore the Soarian alert verbiage is the same as the Therapeutic Alert (there is no alert verbiage that will display as “Generic Duplicate Alert”). 1

2. *** Note*** The setting “Suppress Duplicate Alerts between New Medication Orders Placed during an Ordering Session” is enabled. This means that if 2 orders for the same ingredient are ordered in the same ordering session, the alert will not display. Definition of Level 1 Precaution= Contraindicated with Pregnancy. Lactation Precautions Checking Enabled? YES This is enabled for Provider Order Entry Level 1 interactions only, and a provider comment is required to complete the order entry. Definition of Level 1 Precaution= Contraindicated with Nursing Mothers. 5

6. Geriatric Precautions Checking Enabled? YES This is enabled for Provider Order Entry Level 1 precautions only, and a provider comment is required to complete the order entry. Definition of Level 1 Precaution = Drugs with a precaution level of Contraindication (not recommended for geriatric patients). Geriatric Age = 75 Years This is enabled for Provider Order Entry for Level 1 and 2 precautions, and a provider comment is required to complete the order.
