Breathing This presentation is about your breathing organs and how they are used Your breathing organs are the lungs, ribcage and diaphragm. If you could see inside your body, you would find them in the upper chest Click the mouse to move on! lungs diaphragm ribcage
This X ray shows the lungs in the ribcage The person is facing you so the dark area near me is the left lung Can you make out that the left lung is slightly smaller to make room for the heart? The arrows are pointing to the diaphragm You can see the ribcage and other bones.
The diaphragm is a very powerful muscle. Watch how it controls breathing When the diaphragm moves down … the lungs expand and air is drawn in. When the diaphragm moves up … the lungs are squeezed and air is forced out And it all happens without you trying! How it works diaphragm
Finer Detail Oxygen is in the air you breathe in The tube leading to the lungs is called the trachea … which divides into two smaller tubes called bronchi which divide into smaller and smaller tubes until you get to the air sacs
Air Sacs At an air sac, oxygen from the air goes into the blood and carbon dioxide leaves the blood and goes into the air in the air sac Your body breathes out the carbon dioxide
Close Up This is a magnified view of the air sacs The blood vessels look like a net The air sacs and blood are really close
