2 Physical Characteristics  The mountain goat can be up to 5.5 feet long.  The mountain goat can weigh up to 300 pounds.  The mountain goat has white fur.

3 Lifespan  The lifespan of the mountain goat is twelve to fifteen years.

4 Eating Habits/Diet  Mountain goats are herbivores (plant eaters).  Mountain goats eat grasses, ferns, sedges, mosses, herbs, lichens, and shrubs.

5 Population  There are only 100,000 mountain goats left in North America.

6 Habitat/Range  Mountain goats live in the Rocky Mountain areas and in coastal areas, including Alaska.

7 Adaptations  Mountain goats have horns that help them defend themselves.  Mountain goats have rubber on their hooves that protect their hooves.  Mountain goats’ fur protects them from harsh weather.

8 Endangered Because  Mountain goats are endangered because avalanches, rockslides, and landslides crush them.  Predators, like mountain lions, eat them.  Lastly, humans hunt them.

9 Fun Fact  If you were to look at a mountain goat’s horns, then you would see rings on the horns.  If it isn’t 22 months or younger, then count the rings.  However many rings are on the horns tells how old it is.
