IDENTIFYING NAVAL OFFICERS
OBJECTIVES OF THIS LESSON n To teach cadets to recognize naval officers by the various emblems and devices worn on their uniforms. n To teach cadets to understand the various pay grades and ranks of naval officers.
METHODS OF IDENTIFYING OFFICERS n NAVAL OFFICERS ARE EASILY IDENTIFIED BY THE MARKINGS ON THEIR UNIFORMS. n THE RANKS ARE DEPICTED BY : u STRIPES ON THE SLEEVES u VARIOUS METAL DEVICES WORN ON THE COLLAR. u SHOULDER BOARDS ON SOME UNIFORMS.
OFFICER SLEEVE INSIGNIA STRIPES OF VARIOUS SIZES ARE USED TO DEPICT OFFICER RANKS. THESE STRIPES ARE USED ON: n SHOULDER BOARDS n SLEEVES OF SOME UNIFORMS THE SIZE AND NUMBER DEPEND ON THE RANK. EXAMPLE-CAPTAIN IS SIGNIFIED BY FOUR 1/2 INCH STRIPES. 2 INCH STRIPES 1/2 INCH STRIPES 1/4 INCH STRIPES (CAPTAIN)
OFFICER SLEEVE INSIGNIA (CONT) RANK STRIPES ARE GOLD ON ALL SLEEVES AND SHOULDER BOARDS.
