3 Project Purpose  Reduce congestion  Improve mobility  Decrease commute times  Encourage High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) use  Reduce sound impacts from existing freeway  Reduce maintenance cost and improve the Interstate’s operations I-5 North Stockton Project

4 Project Components  Widen Freeway to 8 through lanes, from Country Club Blvd to Hammer Lane  Replace all existing freeway pavement with concrete  Add auxiliary lanes  Add soundwalls  Introduce the first HOV lane project in San Joaquin County I-5 North Stockton Project

5 Representative Existing Condition  Currently three through lanes in each direction  Soundwalls exist south of March Lane  The median is open over local streets and landscaped with shrubs Stage Construction I-5 North Stockton Project

6 Stage Construction Stage 1  Shift traffic to outside freeway with barriers  Widen the median of the freeway and bridges  Construct retaining walls along the northbound shoulder between March Lane and Hammer Lane  1.5 to 2 year construction period  Stage 1 construction begins in August 2011, complete Spring 2013 I-5 North Stockton Project

7 Stage 2  Shift northbound traffic to median. Three travel lanes will remain open in each direction  Replace northbound freeway pavement  Construct outside auxiliary lanes and soundwalls  One year period – Complete by Spring 2014 Stage Construction I-5 North Stockton Project

8 Stage 3  Shift southbound traffic to median. Three travel lanes will remain open in each direction  Replace southbound freeway pavement  Construct outside auxiliary lanes and soundwalls  One year period – complete by Spring 2015 Stage Construction I-5 North Stockton Project

9 Stage 4  Shift southbound traffic back to southbound lanes  Remove temporary barriers, construct permanent median barrier  Final signing and striping  Six month period – complete in fall 2015 Stage Construction I-5 North Stockton Project

10 Construction Impacts  Local Roads –Lane restrictions –Temporary closures  Noise –7am to 7pm –Periodic late night work –Increased traffic on detour routes  Delay –Narrower shoulders and lanes –Reduced number of lanes for night work I-5 North Stockton Project
