The Christ Revealed: Matt. 16 Who do People say I am? Who do you say I am?
Jesus’ Goal: To Jerusalem Luke 13:31-35- Just at that time some Pharisees approached, saying to Him, “Go away, leave here, for Herod wants to kill You.” 32 And He said to them, “Go and tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform healing today and tomorrow, and the third day I reach My goal.’ 33 Nevertheless I must journey on today and tomorrow and the next day; for it cannot be that a prophet would perish outside of Jerusalem. 34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, just as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not have it! 35 Behold, your house is left to you desolate; and I say to you, you will not see Me until the time comes when you say, ‘B LESSED IS H E WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE L ORD !’”

Zech. 9:9-11- “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter Jerusalem! Lo your king comes to you; triumphant and victorious is he, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. He will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the warhorse from Jerusalem; and the battle bow shall be cut off, and he shall command peace to the nations; his dominion shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth. As for you also, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit.”
“Heaven and earth were being joined up- but no longer in the Temple in Jerusalem. The joining place was visible where the healings were taking place, where the party was going on, where forgiveness was happening. In other words the joining place, the overlapping circle, was taking place where Jesus was and in what he was doing.” – NT Wright p. 133 Simply Jesus

Confrontation with the Pharisees and Teachers of the Law - Authority Questioned - Parable of Two Sons - Parable of Tenants - Parable of Wedding Banquet - Taxes to Caesar - Marriage at the Resurrection - The Greatest Commandment
Mercilessly Demanding- “They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger.” (Matt. 23:4) Treasured Money-“Full of Greed and sef-indulgence.” (Matt. 23:25) Love the Praise of Men “They do all their deeds to be seen by others…they love the place of honor….best seats in synagogues…being called rabbi. (Matt. 23:5-7) Religious Cloak (Law-Keeping Exactitude: Hypocrisy) “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisees! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.” (Matt. 23:25-26) Shut Others Out- “For you shut the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. For you neither enter yourselves nor allow those who would enter to go in.” (Matt. 23:13)
Matt. 24:1-2- Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came to him to call his attention to it’s buildings. Do you see all these things, he asked? I tell you the truth, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.
Matt. 24:14- And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
