2 when I was asked to be a mentor….. I was: concerned appreciated curious

3 then I recieved much printed information about: mentoring program and schedule one-to-one relationship expenditure of time needed tasks as mentor to take time to listen carefully to give feedback to give insight in my experience to open my network to advice and to encourage to give practial tips

4 information about the duties of the mentée: to have clear objectives for the mentoring relationship to know which kind of know how is expected from the mentor to be initiative and active to attend obligatory meetings (kick off, interim result, closing and 2 meetings of the mentées)

5 a guideline for the first interview, and the mentoring contract: to be interested in the mentée to take enough time to clarify expectations, and means and kind of communication frequency of contacts content of face-to-face meetings setting of meetings feedback after meetings first date (maybe the following too)

6 my personal benefits as mentor realisation of the relevance of my curriculum vitae and precarious career as freelance scholar pride to encourage my mentée to find her own way encouragement to proceed with my voluntary work … and a good friend and colleague

7 when I applied as mentée at University of Vienna as transdisciplinary ‚external‘ lecturer in the post-doc mentoring program muv6 my objectives as freelance scholar were not to lose my frail connection to this university and to be able to go on with termwise charged lectures for that purpose I needed personal contacts at ‚new‘ institutes strategic tips

8 matching - the delicate pivot point… cross gender mentoring program (I got a same gender mentor) peergroup (3 mentées) one in a management position in a big research institute (extra-university) one with fundings by the Austrian Science Fund, heading for an university career one freelance scholar and lecturer (me)

9 during the mentoring relationship  I need extra personal coaching! publish or perish (peer reviewed journals) application papers… habilitation treatise? ? personal contacts? ? compatibility question > peers + excellent extra trainings and workshops for mentées (management, teamwork, negotiation) …fireside chats … networking …

10 my personal benefits as mentée my pleasant surprise about my publications self-assurance concerning my project aquisitition estimation of my diversified competences + referents for scientific discussions I curate + good contacts in the surroundings of the program contact on me: sabine.prokop@gmx.at
