Information Sources z FSA maps z Aerial photos z Internet - - free - fee based - free (rudimentary) – free, requires practice z NRCS Toolkit z Other Software

NRCS Toolkit Map

Creating a Handmade Map z Obtain aerial photo, or other base map z Put a 1-inch bar scale on map before photocopy

Creating a Handmade Map

Calculating Spreadable Acreage z Mark buffers on map z Use dot grid, planimeter, etc to measure z Subtract from total acres in field *Benefit of NRCS Toolkit and other advanced software – will calculate acreages

Spreadable Acres zSurface flow directions zConcentrated flow areas zFilter strips zFrequently flooded soils zRiparian forested buffers z Setbacks ÛProperty line ÛHouses or public areas ÛWell ÛRoad z Irrigation patterns
