1 Physics Project Monkey And Hunter M Members: Siu Kam Tip Chan Chak Kit Cheng Kin Chuen

2 Introduction of the project: We have set a similar experiment as the experiment of ‘Monkey And Hunter’. And the aim of our experiment is to show the result of the experiment, if the hunter will really hit the monkey.

3 Introduction of the original experiment: 1.When the bullet leaves the mouth of the toy gun, it breaks the aluminiem strip and the circuit of the electromagnet. 2.At the time the iron monkey falls vertically Downward,and the bullet will always hit the monkey. (Diagram will show on next page)

4 The experiment , as shown below:

5 act Actions we take to show the experiment We use a toy car instead of the bullet and an iron box instead of the monkey. 2.We do not use aluminium strip, instead, just let the two ends of electric wires reach each other that the circuit can pass. Those are the things we have changed, other parts of the experiment are similar to the origin.

7 As the movie shows at the first time although we do not success, final we try hardly and we achieve our goal, the car final hit the box. ● So, what is happen behind the experiment? ● Why the car and the box hit at the same time?

8 Process of the experiment: -The car performs projectile motion & the box performs vertical motion. -Both the car and the box start with zero vertical downward velocity and they fall under the same acceleration due to gravity. ↓ their vertical motion are identical -.

9 - Since their vertical positions are same at any instant moment. -As the result, the car -hit the box

10 So, the answer is …… -The theorem behind the experiment: The horizontal and the vertical components of the projectile motion of the car are independent of each other. That is why they hit at the same time

11 The velocity & the displacement of horizontal motion can be represented by the following equations: Velocity: Vx = Ux =Constant Displacement: Sx=Vxt=Uxt

12 The velocity & the displacement of vertical motion can be represented by the following equations: Velocity: Vy=-gt Uy=0 Displacement: Sy=-1/2gt^2

13 Problems we met during setting the. experiment: 1.The weakness of the magnetic force of the soft iron. Our solution: By adding more turns of coil. 2. The power which make the car moves. Our solution: By pulling car with hand instead of depending the electric power of the car. Therefore easier to control the speed.

14 3.The horizontal distance between the car and the box. Our solution: By doing the experiment several times to find out the most suitable distance. 4. During the experiment the magnetic force of the soft iron disappeared. Our solution: Check the whole system several time to see if there are some places we have connected wrongly.

15 Conclusion The result of the experiment ‘Monkey And Hunter’ is due to the independence of the horizontal and vertical motion. And which the monkey and the bullet have the same acceleration due to gravity. To see if the hunter will really hit the monkey at the same, we set a similar experiment as ‘Monkey And Hunter’. The result shows us from the experiment we have done is the bullet really hit the monkey. It proves the theorem behind it is true. Although, we met some troubles during the setting process of the experiment, such as finding the ingradients We needed for the experiment, we still happy that we have a chance to set the experiment by ourselves.

16 It is really a valuable experience for us. Hope in the following days we also have the chance to do this kind of experiment.
