Assembly Bill (AB) 484 establishes a new statewide student assessment system for California, California Measurement of Academic Performance and Progress (CalMAPP) The CalMAPP system replaces the Standardized Assessment and Reporting (STAR) program and will take effect on January 1, 2014. CalMAPP is a system of assessments and assessment tools that cover the full breadth and depth of the curriculum. The State implementation will take several years to complete. “State” of Assessment

For the 2013–14 school year, CalMAPP includes: Computerized Smarter Balanced summative assessment field tests for English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics for all students in grades three through eight and grade eleven. Each test will contain approximately 25 questions in ELA and 25 questions in math and one performance assessment for one subject At this time it is not known which schools or grades will receive which performance task Each assessment will take approximately 3.5 hours and will include the following item types: multiple-choice, matching, fill-in tables, drag and drop, graphing, short text, and long essay. All students will be tested during a six-week window between April 7 and May 16 New usability, accessibility, and accommodations guidelines No student performance results will be reported to districts. “State” of Assessment

All rights reserved. “State” of Assessment For the 2013–14 school year, CalMAPP includes: The California Alternate Performance Assessment (CAPA) for ELA and mathematics in grades two through eleven for identified special education students. Grade-level science assessments, including the California Standards Tests (CSTs), California Alternate Performance Assessment (CAPA), and the California Modified Assessment (CMA), will be given in grades five, eight, and ten An option for local educational agencies (LEAs) to administer, the standards-based tests in Spanish and to purchase and administer the previous STAR CST assessments No Academic Performance Index (API) results will be reported

For the 2014-15 school year, CalMAPP will include: Computer adaptive Smarter Balanced summative assessments for ELA and mathematics for all students in grades three through eight and grade eleven. New Achievement Level Descriptors (ALD) will be used for reporting on a 4 point scale: Minimal Understanding, Partial Understanding, Adequate Understanding, Thorough Understanding New usability, accessibility, and accommodations guidelines A paper-pencil version will be available to districts for 3 years. “State” of Assessment

For the 2014-15 school year, CalMAPP will include: Student performance results will be reported to districts and will be considered baseline data. The California Alternate Performance Assessment (CAPA) for ELA and mathematics in grades two through eleven for identified special education students. Grade-level science assessments, including the CSTs, CAPA, and the CMA, will be given in grades five, eight, and ten. District Actions District Technology Department Updated SBAC Technology Readiness Tool Anticipating using chromebooks, laptop carts, and computer labs for testing Results of readiness tool survey indicate our infrastructure will support SBAC testing Installed secure browser for MACs, in process for Windows computers, waiting for chrome book secure browser to be released by SBAC Piloted browser with practice test at Huff Analyzing student to device ratio at each site Implementing systems to manage and monitor network traffic Hired new Technology Support Technician – Cihan Ozturk (3 full time techs for sites)

District Actions Common Core Technology Task Force - Jon Aker Facilitator Outcomes Develop resources for using technology with the CCSS. Create a grade level technology skills matrix Create a resource bank of strategies for teachers to integrate technology and instruction Adopt a web-based keyboarding program. Develop hardware recommendations and recommend student to computer ratios. Create a professional development plan for teachers Update Two meetings held Current work: Developing Technology skills matrix for grades K-8 based on models from other districts

Field Test: Real World Application In the spirit of CC implementation, the Technology Department and Educational Services are working together to solve the following real world problem… 1. XXXXX School has approximately XXXXX students and XXXXX computer devices. A.How many days will it take for XXXXX’s students to complete the SBAC field test given that the testing takes approximately 3.5 hours per student? Support your answer with data. B.Develop a draft schedule that maximizes technology support, does not overload the District network and meets the needs of 9 school sites? Support your reasoning in writing.

District Actions Technology and Educational Services Working on a draft schedule that maximizes technology support for sites during testing - January Create process and PD for principals/teachers on logistics for giving field test - February Assessing and purchasing equipment for field test (headphones, mice etc). – January Recommendation: Schedule time for teachers and or students to take practice test before field test – can get support from Tech and coaches
