The helmet that Wardens wore as part of there uniforms, this is my helmet After having completed training here I am shown alongside friends and neighbors that have joined to protect others from the air raids like me As part of training we learned basic fire arm skills, crowd control, locations of safe places, be able to put out fire, control broken water pipes, and be prepared for gas Badge all ARP wore on uniforms, this is my badge
This here was some wreckage from around the neighborhood, this also showed the air raid shelter It started in September with the bombing of the Palace Theater down on Oxford Street. Although not to many people where hurt, it was my first taste of action and much more action was to come
It stated on the 22 nd and continued on to Christmas eve. These were the heaviest bombings. It was estimated that 680 were dead and over 2,000 injured. Luckily I wasn’t hurt but seeing the people who where felt like it hurt almost as much. I had always hated coming out of the shelter after the raid was over. I was found myself asking why this happened but I never figured that out. Some more damage from the neighborhood as I am showed alongside my fellow wardens
This newspaper talks about the raids and the devastation and damage that was caused by the German Luftwaffe
This is a bombing report from the raid on St. Andrews and I would have to make such documents as well This was a causality tag that was used whenever we found dead and we used this to mark the body
