Stages of the Water Cycle Precipitation Condensation Evaporation

Evaporation happens when the sun heats up the liquid water, soaks it up into the air, and turns the water into a gas. (water vapor)

Condensation Condensation happens when water vapor (a gas in the air) turns into a liquid. If you go outside on a humid day, you may feel wet and sticky. The wetness is the water vapor in the air.

Precipitation Precipitation happens when the water vapor condenses and turns into rain, sleet, snow, or hail and falls from the sky.

Water Cycle Diagram

Purpose You are going to create a mini water cycle. You will observe your water cycle over two days.

Getting Started Materials Needed: Big bowl Plastic wrap Smaller bowl Recording sheets Small rock

Procedure Get big bowl and fill with water about less than half way and put smaller bowl in the water.

Procedure Put plastic wrap over the bowl (make sure it is on tight)

Procedure Put rock on top of plastic wrap in the middle of the wrap

Procedure Put bowl in front of bright, sunny window or put it outside

End Results In the end, the water from the big bowl will have gone through the water cycle. If you see water in the small bowl after the second day, you will know that the water cycle has occurred! This is the PRECIPITATION in the bowl This is the CONDENSATION on the plastic wrap

That’s All! Thank you so much for letting us share or project with you all. Also, we would like to give a big thanks to Mr. Burke. Thanks again!
