Radiation shielding module design Temporary tool to “jack” the shutters to “close” position. A two- half tube will be placed between the bellow flanges to stop any spring back due to vacuum pressure (about 600N). Spring back stopper tube (in 2 halves)
Cross Roller Guide Type VR, rollers are held in place and separated from one another by a cage. The roller pockets machined into the cage create surface contact with the rollers and therefore help ensure excellent lubricant retention. The guide provides smooth roller-based movement that does not cause wear and is low in friction. With the stopper attached to the rail ends, it can prevent the dislocation that caused by the external force such as a moment, vertical installation, non uniform contact or machine vibration. Stud bolts to be used with an inner annulus seal to maintain vacuum envelop. The arrangement allows the Radiation shield unit to be firmly fixed on the Detector module. Loading from the AFC module is “filtered” out by the use of bellow joints between the AFC and its flange. Connection with the Detector Module
Summary The design of the radiation shield provides the cooling channel with a gap of no more than 450 mm which is a preferred gap size from the physics points of view. Details of the shield and its bearing selection have been looked at. The use of cross-roller guide, a standard commercial product, offers the best solution for loadings of this magnitude. It is also a lubricant free product. The spring back of the shutter rod, due to internal vacuum can be prevented during the shielding operation, can by provided by inserting two half tubes between the bellow flanges. This is a simple and cost effective solution; All the associated tooling for jacking the shutter into positions are temporary mounted and can be removed during normal operation of the experiment. This saves space and avoid any accidental knock by foot traffic I believe the design is now complete and is ready for production except the connection details with the detector inner tube still needs to be agreed on with the detector module supplier.
