MYSTIFICATIONS IN NEWSPAPER HEADLINES AND PROBLEMS OF THEIR TRANSLATION

E. Lann, G. Grabowski, J. Tinyanova, P. Berkova Mystification as a phenomenon has been examined in the works of E. Lann, G. Grabowski, J. Tinyanova, P. Berkova and other scientists.

Mystification is a strategic indirect communicative act that is different from the communicative act of manipulation. It is predominantly assertive and the impact on the recipient is mainly achieved by persuasion and suggestion.

The most accurate and detailed classification includes the following types of mystifications :  Literary mystification  Music mystification  Mystification in movies  Political mystification  Scientific mystification  Media mystification  Historical mystification  Commercial mystification

Literary mystification A work attributed by the real author to another person (the writer, fictitious person, etc.) or work, which is believed to be the example of "folk art" (Poems of Ossian by Macpherson).

Hitler Diaries Fake pretended to be a handwritten diaries of Adolf Hitler for the years, including a separate notebook, supposedly reveals the secrets of flight of Rudolf Hess to England.

It had successfully passed series of initial tests and was bought for 9 million West German marks from stuttgart antiquarian Conrad Kuyau (which wrote them by himself) and published in the magazine «Stern» Успешно прошла ряд первоначальных проверок и была куплена за 9 миллионов западногерманских марок у антиквара из Штутгарта Конрада Куяу ( который сам же их и написал ) и опубликована в журнале «Stern»

Mystification in movies Mockumentary - is mystification itself, being represented in the form of a documentary. Films of this genre are very similar to a documentary, but their subject matter is fictional and especially "hidden" under the reality.

Political mystification involves conscious actions to the appropriate subject of politics in order to mislead, conceal their political goals and control public opinion. We can observe the following methods of political mystification :

notice of non-achievement of goals and objectives, purposeful dissemination of false information; use of political behavior that distracts the opponent, or misleads him; dissemination of shocking information or holding political actions to divert public attention from the unfavorable political situation; deliberate concealment of important / key pieces of information.  Nuclear weapons in Iraq (proved to be only part of a clever political game)

Scientific mystification Is a deception, presented as: a scientific theory, falsification of scientific researches, the publication of the fictional “sensational" discoveries, the use of dummy experts and others.

Nessy

Reports of Nessie spread by word of mouth. 19th and 20th century were rich in reports of the Scottish monster that supposedly turned over sailboats on the lake. Pictures and videos were also made, but they seem to be doubtful proves of the monster’s existence.

Media mystifications Mystification in the media is considered to be the techniques required to achieve the goal set by the journalist. The main objective of media mystification is to awake interest of the audience to a particular problem of society.

« New way to a man’s heart – in this article» (Article, devoted to cookery) «Совершенно новый путь к сердцу мужчины - в этой статье» (А статья посвящена кулинарии) Авторы данного заголовка умело сыграли на чувствах.

The mеn with the “Grasshopper mind” The article was devoted to the basic methods how to focus on any task.

Piercing by 301 nails… Article - advertisement of new tires.

Historical mystification Exploring the past, researchers are dealing with a pseudo which is created in terms of their work. Historical mystification may include falsification of artifacts, false interpretation of historical sources and others.

The Great Wall of China

Today it is considered that the beginning of the Great Wall of China was built in the 3rd century BC to protect against the northern nomads. But was stone wall 3 meters thickness essential for protection from arrows and spears with copper or stone-tipped? Most likely, its building could begin not earlier than in the 15th century!

The maps centuries (AD) had shown, that China's border with Russia passes exactly along the Great Wall of China. Moreover, cartographers designated this wall with thick line labeled "high wall of China." Therefore, this wall was built to mark political boundaries.

Commercial mystification is the creation of false beliefs to obtain money

AIDS – is a lie. There are social causes of immunodeficiency poverty, malnutrition, drug addiction, various diseases and more.

Since the "discovery" of AIDS, the US government has spent on his $ 50 billion. Two billion dollars a year gets Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in the offices where the myth – AIDS was born.
