2 Menstrual Cycle Most girls start their period bewteen age 11-14
Woman are most fertile days 11-17 Sperm can live inside the reproductive track for up to 5 days

3 Stages of Pregnancy Pregnancy begins the moment an egg is fertilized
Three Trimesters Aproximentally 3 months each Full term pregnancy is weeks Aproximentally 9 months


5 Week 2 First Trimester Month 1 Week 4 Egg implants in the endometrium of the uterus in about 5-8 days after fertilization The cells of the embryo multiply and begin to take on specific functions. The backbone, spinal column, and nervous system are forming. The heart, kidneys, liver, and intestines will soon be taking shape. Nerve growth begins when a sheet of cells on the back of the embryo folds in the middle to form a tube, which will become the future spinal cord. At one end the tube enlarges to form the brain's major sections.

6 First Trimester Month 2 Week 5 the heart begins to beat
Week5 embryo is the the size of a raisin Hands and feet begin to develop Eyes are forming Week 6 the signs of pregnancy start for the mother (nausea, fatigue, sore breasts, frequent urination) Week 7

7 First Trimester Month 3 Week 9 embryo is now called a fetus
Kidneys start to produce urine Bones and muscles are starting to grow Liver, kidneys, intestines, brain and lungs are almost fully formed and beginning to function Head is about half the size of the entire fetus Legs and arms are long enough to bend and move Week 9 Week 12

8 First Trimester Week 12 fetus is about 2 inches long

9 Second Trimester Month 4
This month is usaully when you feel the baby move for the first time Baby has developed finger prints External sex organs are distinct Can find out gender of baby Soft hair called lanugo covers the body Eyelashes and eyebrows grow Weighs 4-7oz Week 16 fetus is about 7 inches

10 Second Trimester Month 5
Fetus can hear, feel and taste Nails are growing May start sucking thumb Is about 11 inches long, weighs about 1lb.

11 Second Trimester Month 6
Fetus looks like a newborn baby Bones are hardening Could servive outside of the uterus Weighs about 1 ½ lbs Is about 12 inches Brain is still developing

12 Second Trimester

13 Third Trimester Month 7 Fetus is developing a schedule of sleeping and being awake Brain is still developing Fetus is gaining weight Opens and closes eyes Hands can move and grasp Weighs about 3lbs About 15inches long

14 Third Trimester Month 8 Baby is gaining weight
Is becoming too large for uterus Lungs and digestive tract are almost fully mature Weighs about 4lbs Is about 17 inches long Fetus can hiccup

15 Third Trimester Month 9 Lanugo is almost gone
Organs can fully function Is full term at 38 weeks Baby may drop called lightening Weighs 6-9lbs Is inches
