Retirement Center After retirement, Glen & LeRae opened a retirement center for the young at heart. The facilities at the retirement center include tennis, a golf course, a swimming pool and similar facilities. They sponsor off-site activities as well. Residents are free to come and go as they please.
Employee Assignments. Employees are hired to help residents and perform other necessary tasks. Several employees watch the pool and other athletic facilities to make sure everyone is safe. Other employees prepare meals, perform janitorial duties and take residents on off- site activities as requested. Most residents prefer to use the center’s van for off-site activities, thus avoiding the hassles of driving.
LeRae handles all the office and bookkeeping chores, such as cash receipts, cash disbursements and supply purchases. LeRae has an assistant who is responsible for admitting and releasing residents and scheduling volunteers. Glen supervises the employees and assists the residents. Dining Area. The dining area is available to guests, as are all center facilities. Resident’s meals are included in their monthly fee. However, guests are required to pay for their meals. For this reason, the menu includes prices. A chief cook supervises other cooks and orders the food.
Medical Facilities. A medical facility and full-time nurse are available 24 hours a day. There is also an on-call doctor for emergencies. Medical expenses other than the nurse and on-call doctor are paid by residents. Nurse and doctor expenses are included in the resident bills. Monthly check-ups by a nurse are required. These appointments are recorded on the computer to assure that all residents are examined.
Expectations. LeRea expects the computer system to record where and on what task an employee’s time is spent. She uses this information to access the efficiency of the center and to decide when to hire additional employees. Of course the computer system will handle all basic business functions as well.
