13 Internet Artifacts FBI New Haven, 600 State Street, New Haven, CT  Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, etc.  Online digital photographs  Opinions stated on blogs  & text messages of a personal nature  May demonstrate:  lack of maturity  lack of judgment  harsh views and opinions  Consequences:  Job Interviews / school admissions  Can be used by predators to locate and target a victim  Can be taken out of context  Will be on the Internet FOREVER

14 “Sexting” FBI New Haven, 600 State Street, New Haven, CT  Take sexually revealing pictures of yourself  Send your pictures to someone in a text message or  Why would you do that?  Show off or Entice someone?  Show interest in someone?  Prove commitment?  What happens when you break-up?  Someone has a highly compromising photo of you!  22% of teen girls have sent nude or semi-nude photos  20% of teen boys have sent nude or semi-nude photos  100% of teen boys and girls break-up!

21 Avoiding a Cyber Bully FBI New Haven, 600 State Street, New Haven, CT  Be kind and respectful to others online  Do not post personal information online  Personal information helps bullies find you online  Bullies alter your information and repost it  Do not post your picture online  Bullies alter pictures and repost them  Be careful who you share your secrets with (peers)  Do not respond to a Cyber Bully message  Report online harassment:  Parents, Teachers, Law Enforcement

22 Online Responsibility FBI New Haven, 600 State Street, New Haven, CT  Know about the threats on the Internet  DO NOT lie about your age to access a site  Myspace, Facebook (COPPA years old)  Do NOT talk to strangers (especially online)  Do NOT try to meet with people you encounter online  Do NOT get into fights with people online  Do NOT take pictures of yourself or send them to people  Do NOT tell people your information (name, address, birth day, phone, school, etc.)  Do NOT tell people your secrets

23 Online Responsibility FBI New Haven, 600 State Street, New Haven, CT  Do NOT share your accounts or passwords  Do NOT open s or attachments from strangers  Do NOT accept IM messages from strangers  Something makes you uncomfortable? Immediately tell a parent!!  Some tries to talk about sex? Immediately tell a parent!!

24 Adult Responsibility FBI New Haven, 600 State Street, New Haven, CT  Warn children about Internet threats  Set reasonable rules for children to follow while online  Remind children about inappropriate online behavior  Locate computers in family areas, not in bed rooms  Monitor what children are doing online  Spend time learning more about Internet threats  Learn the services and sites that children use online  The computer is NOT a babysitter  Immediately report crimes to Law Enforcement
