3 Why 20 Mentors? Consider the various types of groups Youth - Sports – Arts – Social Health & Care Heritage – Buildings and how many different needs are there? Funding Applications – Tendering Corporate and Philanthropist support Fund-raising – Income generation Legacies

4 Specialists There is a Funding for All Mentor who has the knowledge, skills and experience to support all types of organisations and every need that they may have Funding for All does not currently have funding to offer this support to Groups in all Districts of Kent

5 If we had Funding - How do we work? Experienced specialist mentors will provide one-to-one support to individual groups, combined with training and advice workshop events. The mentoring is provided through face-to-face meetings, email and telephone contact. The Group does the Preparation and development work

9 Question 10 - Activities ( Outputs ) Be specific what you plan to do: how, when and where and what you will spend the money on Never use words like “ hope to “, use “will” Never use “Unique” because there will be other groups somewhere running a similar project, use words like “new, proven, effective, value for money, etc. ) I would also be careful on using “innovative”

10 Question 11 -14 When will your Project take place Where will your Project take place Where will the beneficiaries come from Costings – always refer back to what A4A will pay for and what needs to be paid for through another source. Always keep a record of how you have calculated the costs and get estimates where possible Specific questions on Land/Buildings regarding freehold, leases and planning

11 Question 15–Why is your Project needed Evidence of Need “The most important part of any application” Collecting evidence - Questionnaires - Consultation Meetings - Letters of Support - Proof of Success from similar projects - Direct and Indirect beneficiary input - Relevant Statistics - List how the Project meets Local and National Priorities - Current provision and waiting lists Most projects start from an idea from an individual or committee Please make sure that you involve and have your community on board

12 Evidence of Need - Questionnaires Short and concise – no more than 2 sides Include both “Open” and “Closed” questions Wording must be clear and unbiased Tick boxes are good but allow space for people to add their own ideas Be very careful on questions asking for personal information Build interest, trust, motivation and commitment

13 Gathering the Information Delivering Questionnaires to residents is an excellent way of letting people know what you are doing, but response is likely to be low Holding a meeting or attending a local meeting or event ( a Fete for example ) will not cover as many people, but number of completed forms will be high Approaching people to request that they ask their friends, neighbours, relatives, members of the same clubs is very effective. Use contacts and support agencies to put you in touch with other Groups, Local dignitaries and access to statistics and Local and National Priorities Enlisting the help of the local shops, Pubs, Community Hall, Parish/Town Council, etc is very effective

16 Question 16 – Promoting your Project Through Media – Newspapers, local TV and Radio Newsletters, Blogs, Facebook, Twitter Flyers at the Community Hall, Local shops Through your local Infrastructure organisations and Councils Any Group or organisation that you have connections with or who have an interest in the activities All publicity and marketing will take place throughout the target area

17 Question 17 Outcomes that need to be met People have better chances in life – with better access to training and development to improve their life skills. (“Life skills are abilities that help people to adapt and behave positively so that they can deal effectively with the challenges of everyday life.”) Education – IT equipment for older peoples project Stronger communities – with more active citizens working together to tackle their problems. ( Inter-generational, joint or partnership projects are good examples )- A multicultural festival Improved rural and urban environments – which communities are better able to access and enjoy. (Community Buildings, Play areas, wildlife area, the local environment) Healthier and more active people and communities. (Activities that improve health opportunities for people and communities) local food project involving growing food and information on healthy eating

18 Questions 18 - 25 All these questions relate to confirming that: The necessary policies are in place (eg. safeguarding policies for children) Insurance policies, affiliation, qualifications Background of Beneficiaries Confirmation of beneficiary gender, ethnic, age percentages if project supports specific groups

19 Sources of Funding Trusts and Foundations Events in the community Companies Individuals who give small donations Individuals who give large donations Other Sponsored or challenge events Local authority/ Government funding Web fundraising opportunities
