This information was found on--- http://www.longwood.edu/cleanva/litterimpacts.htm http://www.longwood.edu/cleanva/litterimpacts.htm Many living organisms are affected by littering. From humans to plants even to the animals that are rarely seen. Many of our animals are being choked and killed to death from the water pollution, we created by littering and not recycling. On average 100,000 animals die a year from digestion and choking on littering in the water. As well as 2,000,000 seabirds die every year due to digestion and entanglement in the debris.
Why not litter ? You shouldn’t litter because it kills not only our aquatic wildlife but it kills our air breathing mammals as well. Many tiny animals crawl into open jars or bottles and get stuck. Once they get stuck they starve to death because they cannot find anything to eat. Also animals get caught up in rings from drink packs, they strangle and die due to our careless neglect to taking response ability of our trash. We need to recycle to keep from this happening. If we would stop being lazy and take response ability such as recycle and reusing durable objects we could save many animals lives. http://www.greenecoservices.com/littering-facts-and- statistics/
Who we contacted…. We are contacting Robert L. Venables which is our state senator and Jack Markell our state governor. We felt that by contacting these two people they would well support this state issue.
Our Solution Our solution is to get the garbage trucks to go out more frequently, get the community to take part and help pick up litter. Also raise the fines and put recycling garbage cans at the end of every block.
