Emotions and Their Basic Satisfying Responses Sadness: replace important people and things Inadequacy: gain skills and self-esteem Fear: protect yourself or loved ones Stress: prioritize or become more efficient with time Anger: make things fair for one’s self or loved ones Guilt: make things fair for those you have wronged Boredom: challenge yourself to learn and grow Loneliness: enjoy meaningful relationships Frustration: try something else that might work Depression: rest and approach issues in a new way
Creating a Satisfying Response to an Uncomfortable Feeling 1. Name the feeling. 2. What is causing this feeling? 3. Create a satisfying response: a. Do a reality check. b. If the feeling is justified, take appropriate action. c. What if you cannot take appropriate action?
