2 Hitler’s Lightning War In groups of 2-3 use book/notes to answer the following questions: 1.What did Hitler and Stalin each gain from the secret agreement? 2.What strategy did Hitler use to conquer Poland? 3.What was Hitler’s plan for conquering France? 4.What happened at Dunkirk? 5.What was the outcome of the Battle of Britain? 6.What was the outcome of the fighting at Toburk? 7.How did Hitler’s invasion compare with Napoleon’s invasion of Russia?

Hitler: removal of threat of attack from the east, division of Poland Stalin: Division of Poland, takeover of Finland and Baltic Countries, safety from German attack 2.What strategy did Hitler use to conquer Poland? Blitzkrieg: “lightning war”, using fast-moving mechanized weapons and overwhelming force 3.What was Hitler’s plan for conquering France? pave a way to France and distract Allies by invading Holland, Belgium, and Luxembourg, then send massive forces through the Ardennes 4.What happened at Dunkirk? Britain rescued Allied soldiers stranded at Dunkirk and ferried them to safety across the English channel 5.What was the outcome of the Battle of Britain? RAF fighters and British resistance forced Germany to call off the attack 6.What was the outcome of the fighting at Toburk? By beginning of 1942, Brit forced Rommel to retreat. By middle of the year, Rommel pushed Brit back and seized Torbuk 7.How did Hitler’s invasion compare with Napoleon’s invasion of Russia? In both invasions, Russia’s terrible winter and its scorched earth strategy created severe hardships for the invaders.
