8 Barbara’s thoughts and observations Poppy Copy -> 4 strands emphasized it takes a village BSI -> brought students with basic skills needs to the forefront & into the public -> encouraged cooperation & creativity between student services & instruction 8

9 More thinking… BSI -> brought use of data to forefront -> inspired innovation -> more time thinking about student success -> pilots, pilots, pilots -> educated “us” about needs & value of CTE -> educated “us” about non-credit basic skills 9

10 What works? Integrated counseling Integrated basic skills with CTE Integrated tutoring NO MORE SILOS!! 10

11 How do we decide? Use data Increase successful practices Increase successful programs Scale up successful practices & programs Adapt from other colleges Slow down pilot use … for now 11
