Goal 6 CISD will provide technology infrastructure, tools, and solutions to meet the administrative requirements of the District and to maximize learning for all students.
Technology Upgrades 3 year plan recently approved funding these projects: Campus computing needs, Ongoing district maintenance, Bandwidth upgrade, Infrastructure upgrade.
Campus Computing Needs Replacing old student hardware with faster and newer devices. Reduces repair cost on older hardware / devices. Purchasing refurbished computers to reduce acquisition costs. Refurbished has the same warranty as a new device.
Campus Computing Needs Web PC Carts and iPad Carts 347 WebPC laptop carts 120 iPad carts
Ongoing District Maintenance Wireless Saturation (Completed Feb 2014) Wall to wall wireless coverage in buildings Next phase is density upgrade for high traffic wireless areas BYOD, iPads, WebPC carts continue to support the need for increased wireless at campuses. Many people have 2 connected devices
Ongoing District Maintenance System upgrades Servers, storage and Internet filter Phone system Core networking equipment, routers and switches Security system servers, panels and camera replacements IP broadcast devices (TV over IP) Onsite data backup system Student & Finance servers
Bandwidth upgrade Current internet bandwidth is 700mb (upgrading to 800mb in school year) More video, cloud computing, hosted programs (iLearn, Gradpoint, LMS, etc) requires additional bandwidth Re-cabling schools for increased internal bandwidth Replacing switches with faster/newer devices Changing internal connection to our own fiber (from leased connections) for reliability and scaling. Increase available bandwidth between campuses and admin
Infrastructure Upgrades Replacing older hardware that is used for emergency communication in power failure Generators at hub campuses Replace old IP Phones UPS data center upgrade / replacement Student system / network storage
Technology Support Windows XP end of life Implementing Windows 7 this summer Certain models in our district that can handle and are licensed for Windows 7 will have a district image soon Major system change was required for our internal imaging system to work with Windows 7 6 District network technicians travel to assigned campuses for work order and technology issues. 2 District security technicians for security cameras, servers, projectors and other video related issues.
Future Mobile computing continues to be the future for anytime, anywhere learning Multiple types of computing device classrooms
