To save bandwidth, VoIP Network engineers sometimes compress the voice signal This is done using CODECs –Codecs are algorithms to compress voice signal –Sometimes called Vocoding Voice Codecs: –G.711, G.729, AMR, G.726, iLBC, etc. –Most common in use in wired world are: G.711 (64kbps) G.729 (8 kbps) What is Transcoding? 5/2/2015 © 2010 Sangoma Confidential3
