The day was named after an early Christian martyr (mučedník). candy or flowers  On Valentine's Day, Americans give presents like candy or flowers to the ones they love. The first mass-produced valentine cards were sold in the 1840s. Earth Day on April 22  Earth Day is observed on April 22. First it was celebrated in 1970 in the United States, it inspired national legislation such as the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts.  Earth Day is designed to promote ecology, encourage respect for life on earth and highlight concern over pollution of the soil, air and water.

He asked Americans to give a public expression of reverence (úcty) to mothers on this day. Flag Day  Flag Day, celebrated June 14, has been a presidentially proclaimed observance (dodržování svátku) since Flag Day  Although Flag Day is not a federal holiday, Americans are encouraged to display the flag outside their homes and businesses on this day to honor the history and heritage the American flag represents.

6 USA – holidays, traditions,sport, culture USA – holidays, traditions,sport, culture OTHER HOLIDAYS Father's Day  Father's Daythird Sunday of June  Father's Day celebrates fathers every third Sunday of June.  Father's Day began in 1909 in Spokane, Washington, when a daughter requested a special day to honour her father, a Civil War veteran who raised (vychoval) his children after his wife died. Patriot Day  September 11, 2001  September 11, 2001, was a defining moment in American history. On that day, terrorists hijacked (unesli) four commercial airliners to attack targets in the United States. Nearly 3000 people died as a consequence of the attacks.  Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance is observed on September 11 in honour of the victims of these attacks.

For Celts was October 31st the last day in summer. The first day in November started the winter and the deathgod empire. The ruler of death is called Samhain, which just mean summer’s last day. It is said that during the night of the last day of October Samhain collected all the souls from the people who have died during the year, to leave them in heaven. To help the souls they placed food and some light and fire near all hills to scare the devil and they also screamed magic words.

It’s connected with ghosts and witches. At parties people dress up in strange costumes.  Children celebrate it by dressing up in Halloween costumes with masks over their faces. Carrying baskets or bags they go to their friends and neighbours houses and they knock at the door or ring the bell. When people come to the door, children say ´Trick or treat´ which means ´Give us a treat (dárek) or we will play a trick on you´. The people give the children sweets, fruit or money.

The guests wear costumes and masks and the rooms are decorated with paper moons, witches and ghosts.

The four most popular team sports are ones that were developed in the North America: baseball, American football, basketball and ice hockey.  Soccer (association football) is less popular in the United States than it is in many other countries, though it has wide amateur participation, particularly among youths.  Sports are particularly associated with education in the United States, with most high schools and universities.

At present however, the country is a multicultural one, has grown a culture of its own. Apple pie, baseball, and the American flag is the integral part of Culture of USA.  Culture of the USA is primarily British.

There were noted influences from other parts of Europe too as there were a large number of immigrants from different parts of Ireland, Germany, Poland and Italy.  Present day (nynějšek) America has been the home to a lot of Asians too. The Asians have introduced Asian culture, religions, dress and food to the USA. Like today the Americans are fond of Chinese food. The immigration and settlement of the Asians and their subsequent establishments of Asian shops in the USA have popularized Asian food in the country.
