be the change ….to what??? blaze the trail …..to where??? Before you start ‘changing’ and ‘blazing’, you should: (i) understand what your trying to achieve, the really important things, and (ii) know the “situation and circumstances” (Sun Tzu). e.g. don’t try to blaze a trail straight up a 2000’ ice cliff….

Sh**!! How ‘we all gonna get up there?? Forget it dude, time to bail Good leader Typical follower

LEADING TO A GOOD PLACE LEADING TO A BAD PLACE GETTING MANY FOLLOWERS NOT GETTING FOLLOWERS LEADING TO A GOOD PLACE* LEADING TO A BAD PLACE* GETTING MANY FOLLOWERS NOT GETTING FOLLOWERS Your “Good vs bad” descriptions are influenced by your emotions and your value-priorities, red vs blue (see TBRT)

Apart from “leading” and “winning” (which no-one does all the time, but everyone does sometimes), the other word that’s very fashionable in political and business circles these days is: resilience

That's life, that's what all the people say; You're ridin' high in April, shot down in May ; But I know I'm gonna change that tune When I'm back on top, back on top in June I said that's life, and as funny as it may seem, some people get their kicks stompin' on a dream. But I don't let it get me down 'cause this fine old world, it keeps spinnin' around I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn and a king I've been up and down and over and out and I know one thing EACH TIME I FIND MYSELF FLAT ON MY FACE I PICK MYSELF UP AND GET BACK IN THE RACE. That's life, I tell you I can't deny it. I thought of quitting, baby, but my heart just ain't gonna buy it. And if I didn't think it was worth one single try, I'd jump right on a big bird and then I'd fly That's life (that's life), that's life and I can't deny it. Many times I thought of cuttin' out but my heart won't buy it. But if there's nothin' shakin' come this July, I'm gonna roll LIFT myself up in a big ball a- and die. AND STAND TALL AND STILL TRY.

A “good (ethical) government” is one that co-creates opportunities …by investing in infrastructure, education and health funded through optimized taxation and delivered competitively. “I have seen the promised land” (MLK) “…you didn’t do that” (The President of the USA) Vote for: good governments (size does not matter), 3 Ethical Leadership!!!

I’m going to quote from several leaders: Sun Tzu, Frank Sinatra, Winston Churchill, Barak Obama. Martin Luther King, Nestor Kirchner,

Capitalism is the worst system ever invented by man!! …. Apart from all the others.

We have mentioned Leadership by Frank Sinatra, Sun Tzu, Winston Churchill, Martin Luther King, Barak Obama, But what about Nestor Kirchner? First, here is something else from Sun Tzu: a good leader “only retires to his tent at night after every soldier is already well fed and asleep” ( looking after employees) Now Kirchner: When he was elected president of Argentina in 2003 he inherited a devastated country. He told the creditors that he would not tax poverty-ridden Argentinians to pay off the debt and then he invited the creditors to personally visit his country’s slums to experience poverty first-hand. They blinked, settled for cents on the dollar. Argentina did not collapse. Instead it grew at a remarkable 10% pa over the next 4 years. “This was no mystery, because the government re- invested in the economy and sharply increased public spending”. (looking after everyone)

Sun tsu: Good leader must know the situation and circumstances. Also note: Explanatory leadership. Good leader explains things well (not necessarily making everything public, some things better kept quiet, (i.e. better for the whole ‘society’ always have a chat about the boundaries of that ‘society’) Should be good at structuring the tasks or roles of everyone else (followers). At least get expert advice about that. (this is an important way that “leader” can motivate followers. Make the task just at the right level, with the right level of complexity etc. (see new ppt file coming soon). This makes people happier and more productive. Frank Sinatra: resilience, coming back from the dead when you are flat on your face. ( see next week) “My WaY, bvalues negative freedom Winston Churchill: “Ive taken more out of alcohol than alc has taken out of me. (If this is true, which we doubt; then its saying that the pleasure from the sherry was greater than the problems of bing a bit drunk. Good leader helps people to feel good, not expecting moral perfection., have a drink. Welcome Obama Ohana {hawaiian word for family)

Forms or styles or aspects of Leadership identified so far…[give an example of each] Good-1: leading to a good place (RBMHG, Multi-Cap Harmony, flourishing etc) Good-2. Getting followers Matrix of 4 combinations.(?) Yang-type (encompasses many dualisms, the TBRC) Yin-type, Transactional style (or aspects, because varies) Transformational, including… Charismatic, and optimal task-structuring to produce ‘flow’. Task-oriented (focus on task structure and delegation) Relationship-oriented (focus on getting followers to trust you, like you) Matrix of transform/transact x task/reln (?) Explanatory: explain situation and circumstances (like teaching) (some topics keep quiet, for benevolent reasons) Emboldening or toughening-up (helping followers overcome fears and weaknesses) Mediative: skilled intervention to resolve conflict amongst “followers”
