2  ISN… is your own personalized journal of learning about science  A portfolio of your work all in one convenient location  A great ORGANIZATIONAL TOOL that gives you permission to be PLAYFUL AND CREATIVE in your responses without "messing up" your notes.

3 Why do they work? Uses both left and right brain hemispheres to help you sort, categorize, remember and creatively interact with the new knowledge you are gaining. Right Brain controls Left side Left Brain controls Right side

4 LEFT-SIDE= OUTPUT STUDENT GENERATED RIGHT-SIDE=INPUT TEACHER GENERATED  The left side belongs to you and should be neat & colorful  All pages should be numbered (even #’s only)  What you do on the left-side should relate to the right side and should be COLORFUL  Examples include  Concept maps  Charts, graphs, tables  Lab analysis & conclusion  Diagrams/pictures  Foldables  Contains information given by the teacher  All pages should have date, title and number (odd #’s only on right side)  Examples include  Notes (cornell syle)  Lab procedures  Vocabulary  Handouts  Study Guides

5 Output=Left side (your interpretation) Input=Right Side (Teacher notes)
