Shamrock supports- Our Gamma Mu chapter of Kappa Delta hosts a flag football tournament every year in the Spring to raise money for “Prevent Child Abuse America.” This has been one of our sorority’s biggest philanthropies since 1891. The proceeds that we receive from this event are donated to “Prevent Child Abuse America” and other local charities. This year we raised over $10,000 and held the tournament over a two day period.
Our Cause- Prevent Child Abuse America Prevent Child Abuse America “Since 1972, Prevent Child Abuse America has led the way in building awareness, providing education and inspiring hope to everyone involved in the effort to prevent the abuse and neglect of our nation's children. Working with our chapters, we provide leadership to promote and implement prevention efforts at both the national and local levels. With the help of our state chapters and concerned individuals like you we're valuing children, strengthening families and engaging communities nationwide.”our chapters
How Shamrock Works.. Each member of the sorority is responsible for either finding an event sponsor or a team to enter into the tournament. The entry fee for the tournament is $100. The flag football tournament is double elimination and we have separate brackets for the women’s and men’s teams. The event took place this year on March 23 rd and 24 th. This year Alpha Delta Pi won the women’s bracket and a nationally ranked team, S.O.A.P. won the male division.

Two very L O N G days… We began playing games on 3 fields around 4:00p.m. on Friday afternoon. Saturday morning we arrived to setup the fields even before the sun came up 7:00am. We had five active fields Saturday and finally held the championship game around 8:00 that night.
We “rocked” the tournament! Our entire chapter attended the event. We cheered on the teams playing all day long, including our own team.
Kappa Delta’s enjoying the day’s events in the sunshine…
S.O.A.P dominated the men’s bracket! Good Job Boys! SOAP is ranked fifth in the nation in flag football. They began playing games at 8:00am, continuing all day and then had to play not one but two championship games to break the tie.
Alpha Delta Pi Every year each sorority on campus enters their own flag football team to show their support. This year Alpha Delta Pi’s team was comprised of a great group of athletic girls that proved unstoppable!
What Shamrock means to me… This was my first year as a Kappa Delta participating in our Shamrock Project and was overall a great experience. Even though it was two very long days, I was able to spend them with my sisters watching some really exciting games. Also, knowing that all the proceeds go to charity makes the weekend worth it!
Ya’ll practice those flag football skills and we’ll see you next year.. Get pumped for Shamrock ’08!
