Caste system – is the Hindu practice of social separation of individuals based on birth into a certain working class
1. Brahmins were the highest class priests, teachers, and intellectuals only class allowed to be literate 2. Kshatriyas were warrior / noble class 3. Vaisyas merchants or traders 4. Sudras were the farmers and laborers

Dalits - meaning the oppressed - below the four members of the Caste are thousands of subgroups –Also called the “Untouchables” because the nature of their work causes them to be “unclean” Examples (Handling the dead) –Dalits are forbidden to have contact with any member of the Caste

HINDUISM Dharma – Duty or work one must do according to ones class Karma – Good and bad forces that occur when one does a good Dharma Reincarnation – Belief that one’s soul will return in another form. Living a life of good Dharma will reward you with a good Karma of being reborn into a higher caste class Good Dharma leads to good Karma which leads to a good Reincarnation What would happen if you did not do your Dharma right? Polytheistic religion – Worship of more than one god
