Which Product Absorbs the Most Water?

Research ● Rice grains absorb water easily, they need water to be cooked ● Cinnamon absorbs liquid substances and dries them out ● Salt does not completely absorb the water but it takes in some of the water

Hypothesis ● I think the rice will work the best because it not only absorbs the water but it stores the water inside each individual rice grain. Also the rice is the most dried out product between the three.

Materials ● 3 Baseballs ● Cinnamon ● Salt ● Rice ● Scale ● Water ● Tuber ware

“Controls” and “Variables” ● Time ● Size of balls ● Weight of the balls ● Independent Variable: The products I used ● ● Dependent Variable: How much the ball weighed at the end

Directions and Procedures ● First you are going to fill a tuber ware with water then place the baseball in there for 5 minutes ● Next take the baseball out and set it in the tuber ware with your product in there and leave it in there for 1 hour and let it absorb the water ● Finally you take the ball out and weigh it and see how much it weighs and you repeat these steps with the next product

Conclusion ● In conclusion the rice did end up working the best because the balls outer surface got lighter and it did not weigh as much as all the others did. If I could do this project again and make it better I would leave the balls in the products longer to see if they changed anymore.
