The natural endowments of the site can be summarized as: availability of water ( Arethusa spring in Ortigia), possibility of immediate protection, availability of two safe harbors, rich agricultural land, proximity to river mouths (ANAPO), which allowed control and the relationship with the peoples of the hinterland.
