4 Three Zones Within… Supra-Littoral Zone covered by water during the highest high tides arid conditions Mid-Littoral Zone Increased submergence time Home to many mussels Pisaster ochraceous. 5 Organisms Adapt to Changes… Moisture Covered at high tide, exposed to air at low tide. Water Movement rough waves can dislodge or carry away poorly-adapted organisms (Barnacles) Temperature range from moderate water temperature to moderate/scorching or freezing air temps.
