22 Permit Streamlining Increased the use of General Permits, Standard Permits, and Permits by Rule -- Has reduced permit processing time frames by as much as 300 days in certain instances Expanded use of outsourcing so staff can focus on complex issues Reduced permit backlog from 1,150 to < 90 (March 2002 and 2006) Reduced administrative review by 14 days Actively involved in Governor’s Office permit streamlining efforts and online business portal development

23 NEW: Electronic TPDES Discharge Monitoring Reports Electronic option added to STEERS in April Potential: receive over 50,000 DMRs per year from 3,800 facilities UPCOMING: e-Permitting Storm Water General Permits Potential:  14,000 multi sector general permit renewals expected late summer  receive 12,000 construction permits per year Air Permits by Rule Potential: receive 1,000 per year Reduce processing time from 27 days to less than 30 minutes

25 Investigations and Enforcement 80,000 investigations conducted 1,159 enforcement orders – highest in TCEQ history > $12.4 million in penalties and SEPs – highest in TCEQ history 18 criminal convictions finalized Results: over 18.1 million pounds of pollutants eliminated or reduced due to enforcement orders
