5 TREATY A formal agreement made between or among two nations; Need Senate approval.

6 EXECUTIVE AGREEMENT Similar to a treaty, but does not need approval by the Senate.

8 PARDON When a president releases an individual from punishment for committing a crime.

9 AMNESTY When a president releases a group of individuals from punishment for committing a crime.

10 EXECUTIVE ORDER A direct order by the president of the U.S. that has the power of law.

11 APPOINTING POWER The president appoints judges, ambassadors, Cabinet members, and other bodies to serve during his term; Needs Senate approval.

12 REMOVING POWER The president can remove any person serving under him at any time but must only be for “neglect, inefficiency of duty, and/ or wrongful conduct in office” not just because he doesn’t like him/her.

15 WARTIME POWERS During the war a president has more power than normal times. Ex: War in Iraq: Wiretapping, denying enemy combatants rights at Gitmo

16 WARTIME POWERS ACT/RESOLUTION Law intended to limit the presidents power of sending troops -Must report to congress in 48 hrs. -Combat must end in 60 days unless Congress authorizes. -Congress can end combat at any time.
