3 Variable Energy Cylcotron Centre3 Features of Control LAN Isolated from VECC General LAN to maximize Security. Free from Worms & Viruses. Star topology: 2-Tier Design – Central Switch in the Control Room & Floor Switches in different floors like Basement, Basement Mezzanine, Vault etc. Fiber Gigabit Backbone and end-to-end fiber connectivity in the Radioactive Zone for reliability. Node level speed: 100 Mbps. Media Converter for devices having no fiber port. Service zone: CAT5E UTP Cabling Tolerant to single switch / link failure due to Resiliency in Hardware. Network Management Software (NMS) for managing the network with indication for probable link failure In-house capability for maintenance and extension of SCC LAN, leading to minimum downtime and ease of operation. Presently copper cabling in all segments. Fiber cabling will be taken up shortly.

4 Variable Energy Cylcotron Centre4 Advantage of Fiber Cabling Immunity to EMI and RFI noise Not limited by 100 mtr segment length of UTP Copper Cabling. Permissible range allowed for Gigabit Ethernet : 550 mtr. (Multimode) Can be laid side by side with Power cable. Neither radiate noise nor get affected by noise radiated by other cable bundle. Lower signal attenuation. No cross talk hazard. Packet loss minimum. Longer life expectancy (Minimum 25 years of working life). Future proof cabling (Same cabling for Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet and ten- Gigabit Ethernet). No ground loop. Secure communication. Light signal can not be tapped. Most suitable for backbone application. For Industrial environment and hazardous areas Fiber is the ideal solution

5 Variable Energy Cylcotron Centre5 Resiliency in Hardware ERS 5530 Central Switches (Control Room) Floor Switch Distributed Multilink Trunking 4 Gbps (DMLT) 4 Gbps DMLT Fail-safe Stack Fail-safe Stacking configuration of Central switches provides redundancy with future extendibility Active-active mode provides double backbone bandwidth in normal operation i.e. 4 Gbps instead of 2 Gbps Distributed Multilink Trunking (DMLT) provides tolerance to single link failure between Central switches and Floor switches
